I retired from the Nevada State Museum in 2001 after working there since 1973. My work was mainly botany oriented, having started the herbarium which was closing in on 27,000 specimens when I left. However, when, I was the only person in the museum’s Natural History Department (budget fluctuations), I expanded into zoological responsibilities, which wasn’t strange for me as my Bachelor’s was in zoology. The museum setting allowed for and at times required other activities as well (e.g., was the lead for a year-long temporary exhibit on wild horses, and for several years served as an information hub for information on Nevada's threatened and endangered plants). I took the Collections Care Pilot Training Program when first offered, and it was there that I really got into collections care seriously. I also learned about SPNHC as our instructors were heavily involved in it. I joined when SPNHC was in its third year, and have been active in it ever since.
